Something for the weekend – The Beach at JBR

I’m feeling pretty smug about where I live right now, as new mall and promenade The Beach at JBR has just opened and it’s a matter of minutes from my apartment.

I’m in love with this place. It’s designed like a European mall with outdoor stores to wander around and restaurants to dine in (may not be such a novelty when the weather hots up, but for now I am loving it). The promenade runs along the beach, with eateries overlooking the turquoise sea, an outdoor cinema with beanbags to laze on, and a splash zone for kids. Dubai has been calling out for a place like this for a long time.

There’s parking too, although take my word that it gets very busy, insanely busy, at the weekends so head down there early if you are taking the car.

I want to let the pictures do the talking with this post, so without further ado, here’s what awaits you if you head down the beach this weekend…

Here’s the fabulous promenade and beach (and its youngest visitor), with the coolest sandcastle sculptures I have ever seen!

I had breakfast at Leopold’s of London; a memorable setting for breakfast. It had a real buzz for such a new opening and I can highly, highly recommend the pain au chocolates!

Not a lot is open in the interior of the mall yet, but there’s a lot promised soon. Notable stores  open include S*uce on Sea, Sephora, and Mothercare – and restaurants include Sushi Art, The Counter, and Papa Roti. I think there will be lots more soon.

Here’s the outdoor cinema – I’m not sure how this will work when it’s up and running as surely the noise will disturb the Hilton next door? The husband suggests you will be given earphones, but my guess is that they’ll just ramp up the noise and there will be a few unhappy hotel guests next door.

Here’s the Splash Zone for kids (60 AED for access), which is located on the far end of the promenade (next to the Hilton). I cant wait to take the toddler here.

We’ve visited at night a few times now too. It’s lit up and quite impressive, especially the laser beams shot up into the night sky.
